Caring for your shoes
When we present your finished shoes to you, we provide specific advice for their on-going care and maintenance. We consider it part of our responsibility to help you enjoy your shoes, helping you to keep them in the finest condition. In this section we provide some general information on caring for your shoes and the products and services we offer to help you look after your shoes. 1. Shoe Trees Always use shoe trees when you are not wearing your shoes. Bespoke shoe trees are the best option. If this is not feasible you should use unvarnished wooden trees to fit your shoe size and the toe shape of your shoes. We can provide either bespoke of standard shoe trees suitable for your shoes on request. 2. Shoe Cleaning Your shoes will benefit from regular and careful cleaning. Techniques for cleaning leather or material shoes are provided below. 2.1 Cleaning leather shoes Ideally you should use a delicate leather shoe polish made to match the colour of the leather. If this is not an option for you it can be a close match but be aware this might discolour some areas of the leather. It may be wiser in these circumstances to use a neutral shoe polish. Using antibacterial spray for the inside your shoes is a good practice, please be careful not to spray the upper of the shoe. 1. Dust the shoes with a soft cotton cloth. It is vital that excess dirt is removed. 2. Using a bristle brush (one with stiff hair) or using a cotton cloth for delicate leathers and apply the polish all over the shoe. This is the first coat so it is vital that you work it into all the crevices and cracks in the leather. Do this approximately for 2 minutes. 3. Wrap a cotton cloth around your fingers and rub the polish into the leather. Do it slowly, for about 2 minutes per shoe, or until a shine appears. 4. Take a horse hair brush, which has much softer bristles, and buff the shoes in a left to right motion to remove excess polish. 5. Finally, wrap your hands in a pair of ladies stockings, thick nylon ones, and buff the shoes all over. This is an important step so please take your time. The friction of the nylon against the leather really brings out the shine and is what makes a pair of shoes stand out from the rest. We offer a range of leather shoe cleaning materials, including brushes and dusters and a range of polishes in 76 different colours. If an accurate match is not available we also offer a custom colour match service. 2.2 Cleaning material shoes Your shoes should be gently dusted using a piece of material similar to that used on the shoes. We will provide suitable dusters for you on request. If your shoes are marked, we offer a range of specialist cleaning materials to remove specific stains. Please call to discuss your specific needs. Material shoes benefit from protective sprays, to prevent the build up of dust and dirt permanently discolouring the material. We offer a range of protective sprays suited to the specific materials used in our shoes. 3. Storing your shoes Always store your shoes in individual dust bags like the ones provided. This will not only keep them free of dust but will prevent the shoes rubbing against each other. This is particularly the case when sharp crystals have been used on your shoes. 4. Wearing your shoes Every care has been taken to make your shoes strong as well as beautiful, but it is vital to prevent the shoes from rubbing against each other whilst they are being worn Be careful when wearing your shoes with long dresses, trousers or coats if your shoes have been made using crystals as they may damage your clothes if they come into contact with delicate materials. Please take extra care on slippery surfaces especially when you are wearing your shoes for the first time. If you have any questions regarding the care or repair of your shoes, we are always available to answer your questions and provide advice and support. |
